Quick answer: Rhinoluxe Fiber Coat is a fibre-reinforced waterproof coating designed for concrete walls, parapets, joints and any detail that needs extra tensile strength. Use Fiber Coat when standard waterproofing won't bridge enough movement; use Shield for standard roof and wall surfaces.
What is Fiber Coat?
Fiber Coat is a water-based acrylic waterproofing coating reinforced with fibres throughout the film. The fibres act as internal reinforcement — once cured, the coating resists tearing, handles tensile stress at joints and detailing, and seals moisture ingress on concrete substrates. Like Shield, it's South African-made and engineered for our UV, salt air and thermal cycling conditions.
When to choose Fiber Coat over Shield
| Use case | Choose Fiber Coat | Choose Shield |
|---|---|---|
| Standard plastered or tiled roof | ✓ | |
| Concrete with hairline cracking | ✓ (Shield is elastomeric) | |
| Concrete joints and detailing | ✓ | |
| Tensile-stressed areas (parapets connecting walls) | ✓ | |
| Areas needing reinforced film over a single membrane layer | ✓ | |
| Coastal salt-air walls | ✓ (Shield is UV/salt rated) |
Where Fiber Coat fits in a system
Fiber Coat is often used in combination with other Rhinoluxe products. For example: Megaflex on the cementitious base of a balcony, Fiber Coat over the joints and detailing, and Shield as the top coat across the broader surface. Our team at either branch can spec a multi-product system for your job.
Application
Surface prep is the difference between a successful Fiber Coat application and a failure. Clean the substrate, remove dust and loose material, and prime if required. Apply two coats to the TDS-specified wet film thickness; the fibre reinforcement is most effective when the film density is correct.
